Stone Tree Golf Club Novato California Wedding – from a top san francisco wedding photographer

What a gorgeous wedding and blissful day with Kelsey and Jon at the Bay Club Stone Street in Novato, California. It was such a pleasure to be able to photograph this fantastic event. With views of the San Pablo Bay to the east, Mount Tamalpais to the South and the Sonoma wine region to the North we were surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty to accentuate Kelsey and Jon’s unforgettable day.

Kelsey and Jon are a match made in heaven and their touching ceremony amplified their special day of celebration. They exchanged vows on the Sunset Terrace, an abounding patio marked by trellises and exquisitely crafted stone walls. Kelsey looked so beautiful in her floor length, strapless embroidered gown, standing next to the dark wood trellis. Her glamour was equally matched with Jon’s handsome charcoal gray suit and charming smile. The look on his face when Kelsey walked down the aisle into his arms was beyond heart warming.

After vows were exchanged and Jon and Kelsey shared their first kiss as husband and wife the party moved into the Stone Street Clubhouse. The tables were lusciously decorated with deep maroon and green flower arrangements that complemented the fabulous faerie-like bridesmaids’ dresses and dapper elegance of the groomsmen. The reception was so much fun! The bride and groom surprised their guests by dawning a pair of matching old school Nike high tops for their first dance; a symbolic gesture for this loving couple’s unshakable bond. The enjoyment continued with a wonderfully choreographed dance by the Mother of the Groom and her friends for the Father of the groom and all the guests.

Congratulations Kelsey and Jon!! You are a wonderful couple and I wish you all the best in your love-filled, healthy and prosperous life together!

Legion of Honor San Francisco Marvelous Museum Wedding – from a top San Francisco wedding photographer

How exciting to be able to photograph Theresa and Matthew’s wedding at the Legion of Honor Fine Art Museum in San Francisco! Tucked away in the beautiful hills overlooking Lincoln Park with glorious views of the San Francisco city skyline, the Pacific Ocean and the Golden Gate Bridge. This French neoclassical building is one of the great treasures of the city and made a sublime backdrop for the lovely couple’s special day.

Theresa looked radiant in her elegant dress alongside her handsome new husband. They married outside in the Court of Honor next to Rodin’s Thinker and in front of the Glass Pyramid. I don’t think there was a dry eye amongst the wedding party after they exchanged their loving vows. Of course we had so much fun with the Bridesmaids and Groomsmen while snapping a few photos within the beautiful architecture of the venue. The ladies dresses were short and stunning and the gentlemen looked debonair in their sharp gray suits. The ceremony was filled with joyful smiles and symbolic beauty!

The reception was divine! The tables were superbly decorated as if they were just one of the many exquisite art collections of the museum. And the flower arrangements were designed with a fantastic mix of natural flora and sleek statuesque lines. There was one terrific toast after another but the sweetest moment of the evening was Theresa and Matthew cutting the cake. They shared an entertaining laugh and a darling kiss. These two really do make a wonderful pair and will have a lot more magical moments together.

Wishing you all the best!! May your life be filled with joyful abundance. Congratulations Theresa and Matthew!!

Log Cabin Presidio Wedding: Christine and Hasan’s big day!! – from a top san francisco candid documentary wedding photographer

The Log Cabin in the Presidio Park, San Francisco offered stunning views of the Presidio for Christine and Hasan’s wedding day! I was privileged to be part of the proceedings as an associate shooter with Erin Beach.

top-sanfrancisco-wedding-photographer-lizcaruanaweddings

log-cabin-presidio-san-francisco-california-wedding-photography-lizcaruanaweddings

You may be forgiven for missing this hidden gem! And what a gem! The Log Cabin is located on the western shore of the Presidio Park. Built in 1937, it was originally a non-commissioned officers’ club. It’s now repurposed to support weddings, receptions and all other joyous occasions. I was wowed by the stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge!!!  It’s just a short walk from the Cabin and it provided a grand backdrop for Christine and Hasan’s day!

The ceremony was held on the large lawn in front of the Cabin – a wide, visually appealing expanse. Christine and Hasan had met at college in France. Hasan’s birthplace is Turkey and Christine’s is the US and the wedding guests had travelled here from all corners of the world. Love has no boundaries or borders and this couple proved it!!!

After the ceremony the guests retired back to the Log Cabin for the speeches. I was so impressed by the layout and intimacy of the space. The cabin walls gave a rustic charm and were complemented by the floral arrangements. The speeches were delivered with grace and love, with a fair few jokes thrown in there too!!! There was also an interesting twist to the wedding cake. Rather than sticking with tradition, the couple opted for a cake made from cheese! In almost a blink of an eye it was time for the first dance. It never ceases to amaze me how much fun can be had on the dance floor at a wedding! The men performed a traditional Turkish dance – both young and old coming together to celebrate the union of two very special people! I even joined in at the end from behind the camera, the energy was so infectious!

Congratulations Christine and Hasan!!

Charles Krug Winery Wedding- Elizabeth and Jordan – from a top san francisco candid documentary wedding photographer

I just had to photograph Elizabeth and Jordan’s wedding in St Helena, CA for Bruce Forrester Photography , as an associate as they are one of my favourite studios in San Francisco, but also,  Charles Krug is such an exquisite venue!!!

Elizabeth looked absolutely stunning in her floor length, strapless, form fitting and full chiffon dress. Her hair was elegantly pulled up into a delicate chignon and she wore dazzling diamond earrings to offset her do.  Jordan was decked out  in a dark gray suit with a pink button down paisley blue bow tie. Suspenders, Allen Edmonds shoes, a paisley blue pocket square and Jordan was looking sharp.

Elizabeth and Jordan had their first look under a beautiful magnolia tree, and then walked about the grounds before the Ketubah signing and their splendid mid afternoon ceremony. Their lovely and traditional Jewish wedding was held on the lawn near the small redwood grove backed by estate vineyards. Their guests were invited to sit any where around the non traditional circular shaped seating plan so they could view Elizabeth and Jordan from any seat. It was a fantastic idea and I’m sure Joannie Liss their phenomenal wedding planner had something to do with it.

With the intricately designed Ketubah, Jordan and Elizabeth’s marriage contract, and the Kiddush cup nearby, the couple received Sheva Brachot, the seven blessings for the bride and groom from the Rabbi under a Chuppah, the bridal canopy made of trees. The ceremony ended with a jubilant Breaking of the Glass, the final ritual said to ward off evil spirits.  The guests yelled “Mazel Tov!” and headed in to the Carriage House to dance the night away on a floor finished in old-growth redwood.

The tables were superbly decorated and the dinner menu included some delectable Charles Krug wines. But guests didn’t stay seated long as no Jewish wedding is complete without the Hora, or chair dance. A few strong and brave guests hoisted the bride and groom high above the crowd on chairs on the dance floor and celebrated their wonderful union to the melodic sounds of “Hava Nagila”. You could tell that Elizabeth and Jordan had strong faith in family and friends as the elevated couple managed to barely look down and remained cheerfully glued to their seats.

Many, many Congratulations to you Elizabeth and Jordan!! You are such a delightful couple with a fantastic journey ahead of you. I wish the best to you both!!

Crocker Art Museum Sacramento Wedding – Remona and Gary – from a top san francisco candid documentary wedding photographer

Remona and Gary’s wedding at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento is probably my favourite wedding of the year. I know, I know, I know, you’re not supposed to say that. But it just was. Perhaps, there will be more weddings this year that I will call my favourite, but for now, this is it. Ok, well, there’s also the fact that the museum loved my photos, and have them on their website. That’s was pretty gosh exciting.

candid-documentary-wedding-photography-san-francisco-lizcaruana

There are so many things about their wedding that I just absolutely loved. First of all, Remona and Gary are just the sweetest, cutest, most adorable couple. They are so kind and caring towards each other, I just am so happy for them. Their whole day went off without a hitch thanks to their wedding planner Katherine Noller-Fernandez of Custom Celebrations. When I met with Remona and Gary months previous and I was hoping they would have a planner.  I was so glad that Katherine was there for them. She really made sure that the day went according to the timeline. The whole team was pretty spectacular, from the florals done by Ellen Kim of Ginger Leaf Floral, to the actual museum itself staffed by Phoebe. There were so many wonderful spots to photograph Remona and Gary I just couldn’t stop taking pictures of them. They got ready at the Citizen Hotel where Remona had her two bridesmaids and Gary had his two Groomsmen. The men were ready and off to the Capitol Building for some fun photos. They had their first encounter in front of the museum, then had some time inside for portraits before their ceremony in the ballroom and then their reception in Friedman Court. If you are ever in Sacramento and are looking for a day to bliss out on art, I highly recommend this museum. The collections it holds are magnificent.

Congratulations Remona and Gary!! I wish you the utmost joy and happiness in your lives together. Thank you for having me as your photographer and much love to you both.

Rios Lovell Winery Livermore Wedding – Josey and Ian – from a top san francisco candid documentary wedding photographer

This was such a beautiful wedding and an absolutely astounding day with Josey and Ian at the Rios-Lovell Estate Winery in Livermore, California. I’m so grateful to have been their wedding photographer and to have shared in their fun-filled celebration!!!

candid-documentary-san-francisco-wedding-photography-lizcaruana

The flower arrangements, the decorations, the local wines, everything was just so exquisitely prepared and displayed. It all added so much to this fabulous day! Of course, you can never go wrong when getting married in one of Northern California’s magnificent vineyards. The Livermore Valley’s scenery was an amazing compliment to Josey’s stunning dress and Ian’s dashing tuxedo. The lovely green foliage on the vines and the warm sunlight gave us some divine colors to use as a backdrop.

It was a day filled with colorful themes. Josey’s red and gold garter symbolized the university both she and Ian attended. Can you guess where they went to school? Hint, hint it’s right next to downtown Los Angeles! These two were so playful through out the entire day, and the fun continued after the reception with a really sweet toast from both the maid of honor and the best man. One of my favorite moments was the money dance, it was entertaining, everyone had a chance to dance with the bride and groom and I’m pretty sure the love and generosity of this phenomenal wedding party will help get these two started on their great adventure together.

Congratulations Josey and Ian!! You’re a wonderful couple and I wish you all the most incredible experiences together!!

Ruby Hill Golf Club Pleasanton California Wedding – Michelle and Jared – from a top san francisco candid documentary wedding photographer

What a beautiful day with Michelle and Jared!!! Their sunset wedding, at the Ruby Hill Golf Club in Pleasanton, California was a stunning affair. I was delighted and grateful to be the associate photographer for Kim James and share in this memorable day.

candid-documentary-sanfrancisco-wedding-photography-lizcaruanaweddings

ruby-hill-golf-club-pleasanton-wedding-photography

It was a such lovely day. Michelle looked so elegant in her gown. She was definitely the light of Jared’s eye as she gracefully walked down the aisle arm in arm with her parents. The bride and groom exchanged nuptials to the backdrop of a sublime sunset. The early evening sun crept through the beautiful courtyard columns to bless Michelle and Jared on their new life path together.

I had a lot of fun with the wedding party. They were so sweet to let me snap a few candid shots while they were getting ready. Even during the most stressful moments everyone looked beautiful and happy. We had the place all to ourselves at Ruby Hill so we were able to wander off and capture some gorgeous outdoor shots with Pleasanton’s majestic oak trees. These staple trees in California that can live well over 200 years and were a divine backdrop for Michelle and Jared’s unshakeable commitment.

After the ceremony we all headed inside for a delightful reception. The ballroom was intimate yet elegant. I especially loved the vases on the dinner tables with the bursting bouquets. Michelle and Jared’s first dance was so sweet filled with twirls and swirls and dips and applause. Guests were so excited to have their moment and spent the rest of the evening tearing it up on the dance floor.

Congratulations you two. Thank you for letting me take part in your joyous day. Michelle, Jared, I wish you all the best!

Olympic Club San Francisco Wedding – Jessica and Guy – from a top san francisco candid documentary wedding photographer

I felt really privileged to be inside the Olympic Club of San Francisco for Jessica and Guy’s wedding. Even more so I was asked to photograph the wedding as an associate shooter for Jennifer Paschal of Bruce Forrester Photography. Her studio, based in San Francisco, has been around for 30 years and is one of the top studios in the city and the Bay Area.

If you’ve never been to the Olympic Club, you may not know that it has a long and deep history in the city spanning back to the 1800s. It is predominantly a private social club with a heavy focus on amateur sports, specifically golf.

The dinner and reception took place in the City Club House in downtown San Francisco, however the ceremony was held at the immaculate Episcopal Church of Saint Mary the Virgin on Union Street. This church is full of dark and warm wood from top to bottom. Rows and rows of pews for the guests and a cute courtyard to congregate pre and post ceremony. It was here that Jessica and her six bridesmaids and Guy and his ten groomsmen held the most touching nuptials.

Post Ceremony all the guests retreated to the Olympic Club for a spectacular dinner and speeches like I’ve never heard before. A full and elaborate slideshow was presented by Guy’s best man, listing all his great qualities. I was really impressed by how much care was put into it and even how a specially flown in shipment of beer from Nepal was used to celebrate Guy and Jessica. This crew really knew how to make a Guy feel special. The dance moves that the entire wedding party pulled out were fun, wild, and felt almost choreographed. It seemed as though a second dance floor was needed so that there could be enough room to seem some of their extra special dance moves.

Congratulations Jessica and Guy!!

Bar Mitzvah at the San Francisco Zoo – from a top san francisco candid documentary wedding photographer

Have you ever been to the San Francisco Zoo? Have you ever been there for a Bar Mitzvah?

In all my years living here in San Francisco, I’ve never been to the zoo at all, and it has been on my bucket list of places to visit. Lucky for me, Jennifer Paschal of Bruce Forrester Photography had me as an associate photographer on young Damon’s Bar Mitzvah. Her studio is based in San Francisco, and has been providing exceptional photography to the Bay Area for the last 30 years.

The San Francisco Zoo is a pretty incredible place. There are all sorts of wild animals to educate guests of the zoo about how these creatures live in their native habitat. There are pathways with creatures around every corner. Birds, crocodiles, snakes, you name it. So here I am going on and on about the zoo and my love of animals when I almost forgot to mention the actual ceremony that was held at Congregation Sherith Israel. This place is pretty immaculate. A really stunning synagog with many a room in this multi building complex. Damon’s service was just packed with all his family and friends to witness him reading from the Torah and reciting the benediction. He did a fantastic job and spent the rest of the day celebrating at the zoo grounds. Here he and is family got to have private time with the giraffes. They fed the sweet adorable creatures lettuce, carrots and anything else there were allowed to. The giraffes, really love vegetables.

Afterwards they spent some time on the boardwalk with the lemurs, and walking about where owls, llamas, snakes, and baby alligators were out for people to pet and coddle. A raging after party was held in the Leaping Lemur Cafe where the guests danced and sang late in to the night. Congratulations Damon. What a wonderful day and evening for you and your friends and family.

Golden Gate Club San Francisco Rabbi Wedding – Jess and Ross – from a top san francisco candid documentary wedding photographer

A Jewish wedding is a very special wedding to photograph, but one where the bride is a Rabbi, is very special indeed. I felt honored to be photographing as an Associate Photographer for Sonia Savio. Her work is incredible and is always a pleasure to photograph for.

Jess looked absolutely stunning in her gown with lace accents sleeves, crystal sash, and satin A line silhouette. She wore simple pearl and diamond hanging earrings and had her hair tied back and let her long hair fall over her shoulders. Jess was a most beautiful site to be seen. Ross her beau, was so charming and kind and wore a classic black suit with a copper colored tie. There were no bridesmaids or groomsmen but a large supportive family.

The Golden Gate Club was were the Katuba signing, the ceremony and the dinner and reception were held. Jess and Ross’s huppah was an especially pretty lace that draped over top of them during their blessings and prayers. The large hall was where the dinner and reception were held and also where the alway fun and entertaining horah dance took place. I’m sure getting lifted up in chairs above your family and friends is really fun and ratchets up the excitement level of the entire party. Jess must have really loved it because after the horah dance she got up on stage where the live band was playing grabbed the microphone and belted out tunes with the singers. I mean, can you believe it, this Rabbi really loves to have a good time!!

Congratulations Jess and Ross you two make a beautiful couple and I wish you a long life of love and happiness.
