Top Two Tips of the Week ending August 29, 2014 – – from a top san francisco candid documentary wedding photographer

I’m so excited to be writing about my top two tips of the week. They will be both photography related and real life related.

So let’s launch right in.

Tip One

This past week I was photographing a beautiful wedding at Hotel Vitale. Family and friends flew in from all over the world to celebrate the lucky couple. The day before we did a final walk through, the weather was perfect, overcast, and the right amount of light for photography. Cut to the wedding day and it’s a totally different story. Open sun, bright blue skies, and no shade in site. I was feeling pretty bummed that the photos I really wanted to do couldn’t happen. So what did I do, I found gorgeous locations inside. I made beautiful portraits, and didn’t push the couple to get hot and sweaty before their ceremony. Our day was scheduled to have all the photos done before the ceremony, but sometimes weather throws a wrench into things and you’ve got to roll with the punches. Well, in actual fact, I was happy because the photos we did take were spectacular.

Tip Two

So, the continuation of beautiful weather here in San Francisco led me to wear one of my favourite long sheer skirts. I was so excited to be able to wear a skirt all day long without have to wear tights and bundle up. Well, after some walking around the neighbourhood with my pup Maui, I found that this beautiful sheer was now full of static and all jammed up and clinging to my legs. Not the flowing look I was going for.  Let me tell you what my simple solution was for this!!! Water! Free flowing water. All I need to do was ground myself by holding a faucet when the water flowed. Thank you so much to my grade 7 science teacher for that trick. It still works today.

Check back next week for my top two tips of the week!!!

Bar Mitzvah at the San Francisco Zoo – from a top san francisco candid documentary wedding photographer

Have you ever been to the San Francisco Zoo? Have you ever been there for a Bar Mitzvah?

In all my years living here in San Francisco, I’ve never been to the zoo at all, and it has been on my bucket list of places to visit. Lucky for me, Jennifer Paschal of Bruce Forrester Photography had me as an associate photographer on young Damon’s Bar Mitzvah. Her studio is based in San Francisco, and has been providing exceptional photography to the Bay Area for the last 30 years.

The San Francisco Zoo is a pretty incredible place. There are all sorts of wild animals to educate guests of the zoo about how these creatures live in their native habitat. There are pathways with creatures around every corner. Birds, crocodiles, snakes, you name it. So here I am going on and on about the zoo and my love of animals when I almost forgot to mention the actual ceremony that was held at Congregation Sherith Israel. This place is pretty immaculate. A really stunning synagog with many a room in this multi building complex. Damon’s service was just packed with all his family and friends to witness him reading from the Torah and reciting the benediction. He did a fantastic job and spent the rest of the day celebrating at the zoo grounds. Here he and is family got to have private time with the giraffes. They fed the sweet adorable creatures lettuce, carrots and anything else there were allowed to. The giraffes, really love vegetables.

Afterwards they spent some time on the boardwalk with the lemurs, and walking about where owls, llamas, snakes, and baby alligators were out for people to pet and coddle. A raging after party was held in the Leaping Lemur Cafe where the guests danced and sang late in to the night. Congratulations Damon. What a wonderful day and evening for you and your friends and family.

Golden Gate Club San Francisco Rabbi Wedding – Jess and Ross – from a top san francisco candid documentary wedding photographer

A Jewish wedding is a very special wedding to photograph, but one where the bride is a Rabbi, is very special indeed. I felt honored to be photographing as an Associate Photographer for Sonia Savio. Her work is incredible and is always a pleasure to photograph for.

Jess looked absolutely stunning in her gown with lace accents sleeves, crystal sash, and satin A line silhouette. She wore simple pearl and diamond hanging earrings and had her hair tied back and let her long hair fall over her shoulders. Jess was a most beautiful site to be seen. Ross her beau, was so charming and kind and wore a classic black suit with a copper colored tie. There were no bridesmaids or groomsmen but a large supportive family.

The Golden Gate Club was were the Katuba signing, the ceremony and the dinner and reception were held. Jess and Ross’s huppah was an especially pretty lace that draped over top of them during their blessings and prayers. The large hall was where the dinner and reception were held and also where the alway fun and entertaining horah dance took place. I’m sure getting lifted up in chairs above your family and friends is really fun and ratchets up the excitement level of the entire party. Jess must have really loved it because after the horah dance she got up on stage where the live band was playing grabbed the microphone and belted out tunes with the singers. I mean, can you believe it, this Rabbi really loves to have a good time!!

Congratulations Jess and Ross you two make a beautiful couple and I wish you a long life of love and happiness.
